QLD Skills Assure - Career Start
Previously known as the Certificate 3 Guarantee. Career Start provides individuals with the skills and support to start their career. The Queensland Government subsidises the cost of entry-level training so you can gain a nationally recognised qualification for as little as $0-$100.
About Career Start Funding
Career Start is one of the Queensland Government's core funded vocational education and training (VET) programs, managed by the Department of Trade, Employment and Training (DTET).
Career Start provides individuals with the skills and support to start their career. The program provides training to help individuals find a job and supports those already employed to move into more skilled roles or full-time employment, including after completing an apprenticeship or traineeship.
Career Start supports delivery of entry level training to students, apprentices and trainees aligned with the skill outcomes required by industry.
Career Start offers either a general training pathway or employment-based apprenticeship or traineeship pathway.

BSB30220 Certificate III in Entrepreneurship and New Business
General training pathway available.
Eligibility Criteria
To access Career Start funding you must meet ALL of the following requirements.
Age and School Status
Be aged 15 years or older and not currently enrolled as a school student.
Queensland Resident
Permanently reside in Queensland and be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, New Zealand citizen, or temporary resident on a pathway to permanent residency.
No Prior Certificate III
Not already hold a Certificate III or higher qualification completed within the last 10 years (school-based and foundation skills qualifications excluded).
Not Currently Enrolled
Not be enrolled in another qualification, even if on hold or deferred, whether DTET-funded or not.
Application Process
Follow these steps to apply for Career Start funding at Asset College.
Start Your ApplicationStep 1 - Review Course Information
Review course information and contact Asset College for clarification on costs, delivery mode, training timeline, assessment methods, locations and student support services.
Step 2 - Submit Application
Read the Career Smart application instructions and submit your application online or in person at an Asset College QLD office.
Step 3 - Complete Assessment
Undertake the Online Language, Literacy and Numeracy Assessment and participate in a pre-enrolment phone conversation with a Student Services Officer.
Step 4 - Pay Co-contribution Fee
Pay your co-contribution fee. The Queensland Government subsidises the cost however all participants must contribute a co-contribution fee prior to enrolment.
Step 5 - Application Review
Asset College assesses and finalises your application. Written response typically within 3-5 business days.
Step 6 - Commence Course
Review and sign your training plan, then commence your course and access additional student support services throughout.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the student co-contribution fee?
The Queensland Government subsidises the cost of training however all participants must contribute a co-contribution fee. This fee can be paid by your employer or a third party on your behalf but will under no circumstance be waived by Asset College and must be paid prior to enrolment.
What is concessional status?
Students qualify for concessional status if they hold a Health Care, Veteran or Pensioner Concession Card; identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander; have a disability; or are an adult prisoner.
How many Career Start qualifications can I access?
You are eligible for one general qualification at Certificate III and one apprenticeship or traineeship; or two apprenticeships or traineeships at Certificate II or III, plus one subsidised introductory-level skill set.
Does approval guarantee my place?
Applications are subject to approval by Asset College Head Office. A completed application does not guarantee approval. Training cannot commence without written confirmation of approval. Availability of funding is subject to change without notice at the discretion of the Queensland Government.
Are licence application fees included?
No. Participants are required to submit and pay for their own industry licence applications where applicable. These costs are not included in the student contribution fee or funding subsidy.
