Do You Have the Skills But Not the Qualification?

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

RPL allows you to gain a nationally recognised qualification based on skills you already have from work experience, training or life experience. Rather than repeating training you already know, RPL recognises your existing competency to reduce time and cost. Start with a free skills assessment.

RPL Frequently Asked Questions

What are the possible RPL outcomes?

There are three possible outcomes: Full Qualification Awarded (sufficient evidence for all units); Partial RPL (recognition for some units with gap training or assessment for remaining units); or Not Eligible for RPL (typically when no or insufficient evidence is provided). Completing a Free Skills Assessment increases the chance of a successful full or partial outcome.

How much does RPL cost?

RPL fees vary by qualification. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to commence. This covers assessor time and the assessment report. The remaining 50% is payable on completion before your certificate is issued. If RPL fees are paid but RPL is not granted, the fees are credited toward study options.

How long does RPL take?

You have 90 days to complete the RPL Kit and submit your evidence. The overall timeframe depends on how quickly you can gather and return your evidence. Extension fees apply if evidence is not submitted within the 90-day period.

Can I use international work experience?

Yes. International qualifications and work experience are accepted if documents are in English or accompanied by a certified translation. International evidence can sometimes be harder to map due to verification challenges and additional supporting information may be requested.

What if I am not sure what qualification I want?

You can still complete a Free Skills Assessment. Our assessors will review your work history and make recommendations on qualifications that may be suitable for you.

Does Asset College work with RPL partners?

Yes. Asset College works with trusted partners including 3CIR (supporting Defence and Emergency Services members) and Skills Certified (general applicants). Whether you apply directly or via a partner, all final RPL assessment decisions are made by Asset College.
