SA Security and Investigations Agent (Business Licence)

The SA Security and Investigations Agent (Business Licence) training pathway provides the units required for those seeking to operate or manage a licensed security or investigations business in South Australia.

A Business Licence is required if you want to operate a security firm or investigations agency — offering services such as crowd control, asset guarding, system installation and maintenance, evidence gathering, or inquiry work — under your own business entity.

Consumer and Business Services (CBS) requires specific business management units from the BSB Training Package as part of the licence application. Asset College can deliver these units to meet your licensing requirements, tailored to the pathway you need.

Upon successful completion, you will receive a Statement of Attainment for the required CBS-mandated business units, supporting your application for a SA Security and Investigations Agent Business Licence.

Activities you can operate under a Business Licence:

- Crowd controlling / Bodyguarding

- Guarding or protecting property (armed or unarmed)

- Security system installation and maintenance

- Monitoring of alarm systems

- Close circuit TV monitoring

- Inquiry / Investigations work

Pathway-specific requirements:

Option 1 (BSB Unit pathway): You must already hold the relevant employee-level endorsements for the security/investigations activities you intend to carry out as a business.

Option 2 (Advanced Diploma pathway): Must have completed a Diploma or Advanced Diploma from the BSB Training Package, OR have a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in an operational or leadership role.

LLND: Intermediate English language, literacy and numeracy skills. An online LLN assessment is required before enrolment.

Technology: Computer with word processing software, PDF reader, and internet connection.

International Students: Not open to international students (student visa 500).

CBS requires you to complete units from the BSB Training Package for a Business Licence. Three pathway options are available:

Option A — Two-unit combination:

- One unit from Category A:

BSBSMB401 / BSBESB402 — Establish legal and risk management requirements

- One unit from Category B:

BSBSMB402 / BSBESB403 — Plan business finances

BSBSMB406 — Manage small business finances

BSBSMB404 — Undertake small business planning

Option B — Single unit:

- BSBOPS601 — Develop and implement business plans

Option C — Full qualification:

- Diploma of Business (BSB50120), OR

- Advanced Diploma of Business (BSB60120)

SA Security and Investigations Agent Business Licences are administered by Consumer and Business Services (CBS), South Australia.

To obtain a Business Licence you must:

1. Hold the relevant employee-level security/investigations endorsements for your intended activities

2. Complete the required CBS-mandated business management units

3. Meet all CBS probity, identity and financial-fitness requirements

4. Submit a Business Licence application to CBS

5. Pay applicable licence fees
