Course Overview
The NT Security Officer and Crowd Controller course is the required training to apply for a security licence in the Northern Territory, administered by Licensing NT.
Asset College delivers this course through a blended learning model: online pre-study followed by 8 days of face-to-face workshops. Students must complete all online content — including a mandatory First Aid online assessment — before attending the face-to-face component.
This course equips you with the skills and knowledge needed to work across the NT's diverse security sector, including Darwin CBD, mining and resource sites, government facilities, and remote community locations.
Upon successful completion, you will be awarded the Certificate II in Security Operations (CPP20218) — the nationally recognised qualification required to apply for your NT security licence.

Upon successful completion, you will be awarded the Certificate II in Security Operations (CPP20218) and be eligible to apply for a Northern Territory Security Licence through Licensing NT.

Entry Requirements
Age: Minimum 18 years old (you may enrol at 17 years 9 months).
Criminal History: No disqualifying convictions in the past 10 years. A criminal record may affect your eligibility for an NT security licence.
Citizenship/Visa: Must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold an appropriate work visa.
Online Component: Must complete all online pre-study content and pass the First Aid online assessment BEFORE attending the face-to-face workshops. Students who have not completed these requirements will not be able to commence the workshop and will need to rebook.
English Language: High English language and literacy proficiency required.
Digital Literacy: Basic computer skills required.
Physical Capability: Must be capable of performing first aid CPR scenarios on the floor.
Completion Timeframe: The course including both online and face-to-face components should be completed within 3 months of enrolment.

1. CPPSEC2101 — Apply effective communication skills to maintain security
2. CPPSEC2102 — Apply legal and procedural requirements to work effectively within a security team
3. CPPSEC2103 — Apply WHS, emergency response and evacuation procedures to maintain security
4. CPPSEC2104 — Apply risk assessment to select and carry out response to security risk situations
5. CPPSEC2105 — Provide quality services to a range of security clients
6. CPPSEC2106 — Protect self and others using basic defensive techniques
7. CPPSEC2107 — Patrol premises to monitor property and maintain security
8. CPPSEC2108 — Screen people, personal effects and items to maintain security
9. CPPSEC2109 — Monitor and control access and exit of persons and vehicles from premises
10. CPPSEC2110 — Monitor and control individual and crowd behaviour to maintain security
11. CPPSEC2111 — Apply security procedures to manage intoxicated persons
12. CPPSEC2112 — Apply security procedures to remove persons from premises
13. CPPSEC2113 — Escort and protect persons and valuables
14. HLTAID011 — Provide first aid
Licensing Requirements
Security licensing in the Northern Territory is administered by Licensing NT.
To obtain your NT security licence you must:
1. Successfully complete this approved training (CPP20218)
2. Submit a licence application to Licensing NT
3. Pass criminal history and background checks
4. Provide identification and meet all probity requirements
5. Pay applicable licence fees
Additional Fees:
- Assessment resubmission: $50 per assessment after 2 attempts
- Re-enrolment within 3 months: 25% of course fee; within 4–12 months: 50% of course fee
Completing the course satisfies the training requirement but does not guarantee a licence.
