Course Overview
The Certificate II in Security Operations (CPP20218) is the nationally recognised qualification required to work as a licensed Security Officer or Crowd Controller in Queensland.
Delivered through a blended learning model, you will complete self-paced online theory modules before attending 8 days of structured, scenario-based face-to-face training at one of our Queensland campuses.
Upon successful completion, you will receive your CPP20218 certificate — the mandatory qualification required to apply for your Queensland Class 1 Security Providers Licence through the Office of Fair Trading.

Course Outcomes
Upon completing this course you will be able to:
Work legally and professionally as a licensed Security Officer (Unarmed) or Crowd Controller in Queensland
Conduct patrols, monitor premises and control access and exit points at a range of sites
Manage crowds and control the behaviour of patrons at licensed venues, concerts, events and festivals
Apply legal powers including trespass, powers of arrest and use-of-force within Queensland law
Screen individuals and items at entry points
Apply defensive techniques to protect yourself and others
Manage intoxicated persons and remove individuals from premises professionally
Respond to workplace emergencies and provide first aid (HLTAID011)
Complete accurate incident reports and maintain records
Communicate effectively with clients, the public and emergency services
Entry Requirements
To enrol in this course you must meet the following requirements:
Age: Be at least 18 years old at the time of course commencement (you may enrol from 17 years 9 months)
Residency: Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold an appropriate visa with study and work rights
Criminal History: Have no disqualifying criminal convictions within the past 10 years
Identification: Hold valid photo identification (driver licence or passport)
Language: Have sufficient English language skills to complete assessments and communicate on the job
Digital Literacy: Have access to a computer or tablet and basic digital skills to complete online pre-study modules (paper-based alternatives available on request)
LLND: Complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) review prior to enrolment
Note: Meeting entry requirements does not guarantee you will be eligible for a security licence. Licensing eligibility is determined by the Queensland Office of Fair Trading.

Licensing Requirements
After completing this course, you must apply for your Queensland Class 1 Security Providers Licence through the Office of Fair Trading (OFT).
Licensing steps:
1. Complete the CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations
2. Submit a Licence Application to the Office of Fair Trading
3. Provide certified copies of your certificate, identification and police clearance
4. Pay the applicable licence fee
5. Await OFT processing and approval
You must not work as a security officer or crowd controller in Queensland without a valid licence.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Who can enrol in the QLD Security Officer course?
