QLD Refresher Training for Crowd Controllers and Bodyguards

Queensland legislation requires licensed Crowd Controllers and Bodyguards to complete refresher training every three years. Asset College delivers the approved training program through a blended model, combining online study with one or two days of face-to-face training depending on first aid requirements.

This refresher course ensures licence holders remain current with industry expectations, operational safety practices and the capability to manage risk, de-escalate conflict and respond appropriately to challenging behaviours.

Upon completion, students receive a Statement of Attainment that must be submitted to the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) to maintain the relevant functions on a QLD Class 1 Security Providers Licence.

This course refreshes the core operational skills required for Crowd Controllers and Bodyguards in Queensland. It focuses on two nationally recognised units:

- CPPSEC3101 – Manage conflict and security risks using negotiation

- CPPSEC3121 – Control persons using empty hand techniques

Students must also hold a current first aid certification. OFT accepts either:

- HLTAID011 – Provide first aid, or

- HLTAID014 – Provide advanced first aid

Bodyguards typically complete HLTAID014 due to the higher operational expectations in protective services.

Training reinforces: conflict de-escalation and negotiation, duty-of-care responsibilities, safe and lawful empty-hand techniques, situational awareness, and responding to behaviours of concern.

This refresher is for current Crowd Controller and/or Bodyguard licence holders who must maintain their endorsement.

Mandatory Requirements: To maintain licence functions, you must:

- Complete this approved refresher training every three years

- Hold a current first aid certificate (HLTAID011 or HLTAID014)

- Submit your Statement of Attainment to the Office of Fair Trading

- Check your OFT notification letter for exact refresher due dates

OFT does not accept Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for licence refresher training.

LLND Review: All students must complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) review prior to enrolment.

International Students: Not available to international students on a subclass 500 Student Visa.

Option 1 – Refresher Training (Excluding First Aid): $200

Online study + 1 day of face-to-face practical training

- CPPSEC3101 – Manage conflict and security risks using negotiation

- CPPSEC3121 – Control persons using empty hand techniques

Option 2 – Refresher Training + First Aid (HLTAID011): $350

Online study + 2 days of face-to-face training

Includes current first aid certificate for licence compliance.

Option 3 – Refresher Training + Advanced First Aid (HLTAID014): $395

Online study + 2 days of face-to-face training

Commonly completed by Bodyguards and those working in higher-risk environments.

All fees include learning materials, online components, practical training and assessment.

Completing this refresher helps maintain the Crowd Controller and/or Bodyguard function on a QLD Class 1 Security Providers Licence.

Only the Office of Fair Trading can confirm eligibility or endorse licence functions. You must:

- Submit your refresher Statement of Attainment directly to OFT

- Ensure first aid remains current

- Confirm due dates with the regulator

Important: OFT does not accept RPL for this refresher. The training must be completed in full, regardless of previous experience.

Training alone does not renew or update a licence unless submitted correctly to OFT.
