The TAS Security Agent (Individual) course delivers the skill set required by Consumer, Building and Occupational Services (CBOS) for individuals who want to operate as a self-employed security provider or manage a licensed security business in Tasmania.

Holding a Security and Investigations Agent (Individual) Licence allows you to operate your own security business — providing guarding, patrol, crowd control, bodyguarding, or investigations services under your own entity, without being employed by a master licence holder.

This course delivers 8 nationally recognised units covering security management, WHS leadership, risk assessment, supervision, and business planning.

Course Outcomes +

Upon successful completion, you will receive a Statement of Attainment for 8 units from the CPPSS00064 skill set, supporting your application for a TAS Security and Investigations Agent (Individual) Licence through CBOS.

With an Individual Licence you can:

- Operate your own security business in Tasmania

- Offer services in your licensed activity areas (guarding, crowd control, bodyguarding, investigations)

- Engage clients directly as a security contractor

- Build your own security brand and business

Entry Requirements +

Prerequisites:

- Must hold the Certificate II in Security Operations (or equivalent) as the foundation qualification

- Must hold relevant employee-level licence endorsements for the activities you intend to carry out

Age: Minimum 18 years old.

Probity: Must meet Tasmanian fit and proper person requirements. No disqualifying criminal history.

Identity & Financial: Must meet CBOS identity, probity, and financial-fitness standards (no bankruptcy for individual commercial agent licences).

Technology: Computer with internet access.

Units of Competency +

8 units from CPPSS00064 (CBOS-mandated):

1. CPPSEC4001 — Manage work health and safety in the security work environment

2. CPPSEC4003 — Assess and advise on client security needs

3. CPPSEC4004 — Supervise security operations

4. CPPSEC4006 — Conduct security risk assessment of client operations

5. CPPSEC4007 — Identify security threats and assess impact on client operations

6. CPPSEC4024 — Assess security of crowded places

7. BSBLDR414 — Lead team effectiveness

8. BSBESB401 — Research and develop business plans

Licensing Requirements +

TAS Security and Investigations Agent (Individual) Licences are administered by CBOS under the Security and Investigations Agents Act 2002.

To obtain your Individual Licence you must:

1. Hold the Certificate II in Security Operations (or equivalent)

2. Hold the relevant employee-level endorsements for your intended business activities

3. Complete this CBOS-mandated skill set training

4. Meet all CBOS probity, identity and financial-fitness requirements

5. Submit an Individual Licence application to CBOS

6. Pay applicable licence fees

Completing the course satisfies the training requirement but does not guarantee a licence.
