TAS Security Guard and Crowd Control

The TAS Security Guard and Crowd Control course is the required qualification to apply for a security licence in Tasmania under the Security and Investigations Agents Act 2002.

Asset College delivers this course in Tasmania through training partner Eagle Security Services — an experienced local provider with deep connections to the Tasmanian security industry.

This 8-day face-to-face course equips you with the skills to work as a licensed security guard or crowd controller across Tasmania's security sector, including hotels, events, retail, government facilities, and community venues.

Note: RPL is not available for the TAS Security Guard and Crowd Control course.

Licence categories covered: Class F (Crowd Controller) and Class G (Security Officer – Unarmed).

Upon successful completion, you will be awarded the Certificate II in Security Operations (CPP20218) and be eligible to apply for a Tasmanian Security Employee Licence through CBOS.

Age: Minimum 18 years old.

Probity: Must be a fit and proper person (no prescribed offences, not bankrupt if applying for commercial sub-agent licence).

Criminal History: No prescribed offence convictions.

Technology: Computer and internet access required for the online component.

English: High English language and literacy proficiency required.

Digital Literacy: Basic digital skills required.

Physical Capability: Must be capable of performing first aid scenarios including CPR on the floor.

2. CPPSEC2102 — Apply legal and procedural requirements to work effectively within a security team

3. CPPSEC2103 — Apply WHS, emergency response and evacuation procedures to maintain security

4. CPPSEC2104 — Apply risk assessment to select and carry out response to security risk situations

5. CPPSEC2105 — Provide quality services to a range of security clients

6. CPPSEC2106 — Protect self and others using basic defensive techniques

7. CPPSEC2107 — Patrol premises to monitor property and maintain security

8. CPPSEC2108 — Screen people, personal effects and items to maintain security

9. CPPSEC2109 — Monitor and control access and exit of persons and vehicles from premises

10. CPPSEC2110 — Monitor and control individual and crowd behaviour to maintain security

11. CPPSEC2111 — Apply security procedures to manage intoxicated persons

12. CPPSEC2112 — Apply security procedures to remove persons from premises

13. CPPSEC2113 — Escort and protect persons and valuables

14. HLTAID011 — Provide first aid

Security licensing in Tasmania is administered by Consumer, Building and Occupational Services (CBOS) under the Security and Investigations Agents Act 2002.

To obtain your TAS Security Employee Licence you must:

1. Successfully complete this approved training (CPP20218)

2. Submit a licence application to CBOS

3. Pass criminal history and background checks

4. Meet CBOS 'fit and proper person' requirements

5. Pay applicable licence fees

Completing the course satisfies the training requirement but does not guarantee a licence.

Government-Funded Training: Limited funded training places may be available for eligible Tasmanian residents.

Additional Fees:

- Assessment resubmission: $50 per assessment after 2 failed attempts

- Re-enrolment within 3 months: 25%; within 4–12 months: 50%
