Course Overview +

Queensland Weapons Licensing mandates annual re-certification to ensure officers remain current, competent and compliant in the safe use of firearms for security duties.

Training is delivered through online theory followed by four hours of face-to-face range-based assessment. Participants must demonstrate continued competency in safe handling, loading and unloading, malfunction management, accuracy, and operational decision-making.

This annual assessment applies to licence holders endorsed for:

- Category H – Revolvers

- Category H – Semi-Automatic Pistols

- Category C – Pump-Action Shotgun

- Category E – Ballistic Vests

Who Must Complete This? This course is mandatory for individuals who hold a QLD Security Firearms Licence and perform armed security duties, armed CIT, or armed protective services work.

Important Timing Requirements +

Queensland Weapons Licensing enforces strict timing rules for annual re-certification:

- Re-certification must be completed within 60 days PRIOR to licence expiry

- It CANNOT be completed earlier than this 60-day window

- It CANNOT be completed after licence expiry

- If the licence expires, you may lose the authority to possess firearms and may need to reapply

Licence holders are responsible for monitoring their expiry dates and booking training within the permitted timeframe.

Weapons Licensing does NOT accept Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for annual re-certification. All licence holders must complete the prescribed training and assessment every year.

Course Outcomes +

On successful completion, participants receive a Statement of Attainment for CPPSEC3114 Control security risk situations using firearms, confirming re-certification for the firearm categories assessed.

This training verifies ongoing capability to:

- Apply QLD Weapons Act, Regulation and licence conditions

- Conduct pre-operational safety and function checks

- Safely handle, load, unload and operate firearms

- Demonstrate competency across relevant firearm categories

- Engage targets in accordance with accuracy benchmarks

- Manage malfunctions using safe recovery procedures

- Apply professional conduct and judgement in armed duties

Completion supports annual renewal of the QLD Security Firearms Licence. Licensing decisions rest solely with Queensland Weapons Licensing.

The class environment was great, the other classmates were great, and James was one of the coolest dudes ever to have as a teacher. If only schools had teachers like him I might have enjoyed school a lot more!
