NSW Class 1B Bodyguard

This training equips you with the advanced skills and knowledge to provide close personal protection to clients in a variety of environments. Whether working with VIPs, corporate executives, or high-profile individuals, this course prepares you to manage risk, ensure safety, and operate with discretion and professionalism.
The course is SLED-approved and delivers a Statement of Attainment for 2 units of the CPP31418 Certificate III in Close Protection Operations. These units can also be credited towards the full qualification.
Note: You must already hold a NSW Class 1A Security Officer and Crowd Controller licence before enrolling in this course.
Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion, you will receive a Statement of Attainment for:
- CPPSEC3122 — Plan provision of close protection services
- CPPSEC3123 — Implement close protection services
This training supports your application for a NSW Class 1B Bodyguard licence subclass through SLED and may provide credit towards the full CPP31418 Certificate III in Close Protection Operations.
You can also upgrade to the full Certificate III in Close Protection Operations for an additional $500 (total $1,250).
Entry Requirements
Prerequisites:
- Must currently hold a NSW Class 1A Security Officer and Crowd Controller licence
- Must hold a current HLTAID014 Advanced First Aid certificate (copy required for enrolment confirmation)
- Must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent Australian resident, hold a visa sponsored by a Master licence holder, or hold a visa for a skilled occupation corresponding to the licence subclass
Mandatory Pre-Enrolment: Students must complete a SLED Pre-Course Assessment (LLN Test) before enrolment is confirmed.
International Students: This course is not open to international students (student visa 500).
Note: RPL is not available for NSW security licence courses. An Assessment Only Pathway (AOP) may be available at the same course fee ($750).
Units of Competency
This course delivers 2 nationally recognised units:
- CPPSEC3122 — Plan provision of close protection services
- CPPSEC3123 — Implement close protection services
A Statement of Attainment is issued upon successful completion. These units may be credited towards CPP31418 Certificate III in Close Protection Operations.
Upgrade option: Complete the full CPP31418 Certificate III in Close Protection Operations for an additional $500 (total $1,250).
Licensing Requirements
Security licensing in NSW is administered by SLED (Security Licensing and Enforcement Directorate).
To add the Class 1B Bodyguard subclass to your NSW licence you must:
1. Currently hold a Class 1A licence
2. Complete this SLED-approved training
3. Hold a current HLTAID014 Advanced First Aid certificate
4. Submit an application to SLED to add the 1B subclass
5. Meet all SLED probity and eligibility requirements
RPL is not available for NSW security licence courses due to SLED requirements. AOP is available at the standard course fee.
Completing the course satisfies the training requirement but does not guarantee a licence.

Assessment Only Pathway (AOP): $750 (same fee)
Delivery: 2 days face-to-face in class plus access to online resources. Training is conducted through practical scenarios, role plays and group discussions. Enrol direct with Asset College only — not available through third parties.
Training Locations: Parramatta plus regional NSW locations including Wagga Wagga, Albury, Coffs Harbour, Ballina, Nowra and more.
